What is Rouw op Zuid?
Golden Joinery and Josine’s Care join hands for a small-scale local initiative in Rotterdam-Zuid. Together with local partners and local residents, we are setting up a program around loss, mourning, remembering and commemoration in the Bloemhof neighbourhood. By means of various activities, attention is drawn to loss and mourning, something everyone encounters in their lives. Neighbourhood residents can find a place for recognition, remembrance, comfort, contact and connection, which is helpful in their grieving process.
Rouw op Zuid will take place during the week of October 28 through November 2, 2024 in the Bloemhof neighbourhood.
Why
In our society, death, loss and mourning have been pushed more into the background, “out of the picture”. Many people find it difficult to dwell on death and other forms of loss, and the uncomfortable emotions it triggers. Everyone faces several losses in life. At the same time, many people struggle with their grief and mourning alone. Partly because it is a long, erratic and personal process. In this neighborhood, many concerns accumulate behind front doors. The various losses many residents have experienced are part of those concerns and may underlie them. Failure or limited expression of grief can cause or exacerbate mental, physical, social and existential problems. Attention to, and openness about loss and grief can contribute to strengthening the person’s self and resilience as well as mutual connection and support in the neighbourhood.
Are you creative? Have you known loss? Do you express your mourning in images, pictures, words or other creations? Then we need you. You can register or ask for more information via kunst@goldenjoinery.nl
